Throttle Controllers
What is electronic throttle control (ETC)?
To understand how throttle controllers work, we need to take a step back in history and dive into electronic throttle control itself. So, what is electronic throttle control or ETC?
Before the advent of ETC, the accelerator pedal and the throttle were physically (mechanically) linked together. This mechanical linkage has now been replaced by an electrical one. In a nutshell, ETC relies on a vehicles sensor data (mainly the position of the accelerator pedal, but there are also other sensors that come into play) to open the throttle valve to the appropriate position.
How does a throttle controller actually work?
Now that we understand ETC lets explore the throttle controller. Basically all an aftermarket throttle controller does is intercept the signal from the accelerator and modify it. That's it! Don't however be fooled by this simplicity, by leveraging this signal a throttle controller can dramatically sharpen or soften your vehicle's throttle response (and everything in between), which is exactly why you want buy one.
